The One Year Anniversary in Provincetown

This past weekend my lovely wife and I took a few days off for our One Year Wedding Anniversary that started off in Boston and ended in Provincetown MA down by the beach. Most people know Provincetown as a mecca for the gay community. Well it is! How could you not trust the judgement of the gay community, they certainly have style and taste and Provinetown shows just that. Amongst the vast range of amazing bars, clubs, restaurants, art galleries and boutiques is one of the most amazing landscapes and atmospheres in the state of Massachusetts! We like to try an keep it completely off from the norm and enjoy our life together as a happily married couple. I think we do a pretty good job, if I do say so myself. These photos were taken by the iPhone so do excuse the lack of quality.

Started off Friday night with some frosty adult beverages at Thunderdome 3D that was held at the legendary Villa Victoria. It was a bit different to hear the sounds in that room as most of us are so used to deep house from the Soul Revival crew, but the production and quality that was put into this event was REALLY great!

You go to the beach with us then Appletons Jamaican Rum is a necessity. This is a must have for us while celebrating our wedding, since it was the key ingredient in our times in Jamaica during our wedding ceremony.

The disco ball in our hotel lobby. We stayed at the legendary Boatslip on Provincetown. Everyday at 4pm, they have a dance Tea Party. How could you not stay in a hotel that has a daily dance party! Derek, our bartender for the weekend at our hotel was an amazing guy and great host to us!

This would be the "DO NOT DISTURB" door handle that comes equipped with your room!

Some random images of art throughout the Commercial St area. Absolutely amazing!

Finally, I have to send a huge thank you to Pauline from MAP, located in the West End of Provincetown. This shop is one of my favorites just due to the fact that they carry Rebel 8, Vans and other sort of Sailor Jerry meets Pirates meets biker type clothing. If you don't know, I am a huge fan of Mike Giant and the Rebel 8 collective. Good stuff! The hospitality and kindness of Pauline was top-notch. She assisted us in info on local parties, and DJ's. We were put in contact with a local DJ by the name of Justin, however due to over intoxication during our Anniversary dinner, we were unable to meet up with him Sunday night. Definitely be sure to stop by MAP and say hello to Pauline! Also, check out Stax of Wax in that area as well! Until the next time Provincetown! Happy Anniversary Baby!

The Crystal Method w/ DJ Melee @ House of Blues - May 6th 09

On Wednesday May 6th 2009 I will be opening for the Crystal Method for the 3rd/4th time. This is a very special evening for a few reasons. First, this is the new HOUSE OF BLUES in Boston which I have NEVER played. Yes, as a former resident of Avalon I played that Lansdowne St location numerous times, but this is a whole new building, a whole new room and most importantly a whole new sound system! Second reason, is that this time around the boys from The Crystal Method will be doing a LIVE show!

Cates & dpL "Through The Weekend" Album Release!

Recently signed to OM, Cates & DpL absolutely have all the right in the world to carry the North American torch abroad. Not because few are capable but because they possess a sound that tears down all the facades of genre classification. The album crosses it all in a vein that is un-paralleled by those fooled by demographic strategies which close caption creativity. Here at Monism we’re proud to support and push forward some of the statesides best, Cates & DpL.

Chicago - RBMA Meetings 2009 - Day #2

Wednesday morning I woke up a bit cloudy from the evening before out drinking with Boston to Chicago transplant, Snatch.
See Also: Michelle *love the chuck palahniuk references so i will use them from here on out*

So after making my way back up from the gym in the hotel and sweating out the jagermeister from the previous evening we made our way over to our first meetings at Chicago's House of Blues (pictured below).

Today our meetings included the one and only Godfather of House music, Frankie Knuckles.
See Also: Warehouse Nightclub Chicago
See Also: Larry Levan, Paradise Garage
See Also: Amazing!

After Frankie spoke to us and educated us on his history and shared his life stories, we then moved on to the after party for the evening. Held at Chicago's own Smartbar, featuring a set from Ralphi Rosario and Frankie Knuckles.

Brian Gillespie (Detroit what!)

Snatch, Madonna and Me

Myself and Jud aka Jesus aka The White Dave Chapelle representing the LBC!

*Special Chicago appearance by Heath! I was hungover from Smartbar as you can plainly see. LOL

Chicago really is an amazing city and I look forward to returning soon. Cheers to you chicago!

Chicago - RBMA Meetings 2009 - Day #1

My 2+ hour plane ride brought me to my very first visit to Chicago. I immediately hopped on the blue line and took the train downtown to my home for the next 3 days. After a few drinks upon arriving catching up with my friends from other cities in the US (and other countries) and also meeting some new ones, I called it an early night.

*they paint the river green on St Patricks Day

Day #1 brought us to our meetings talking about what each and everyone of us will be bringing as a special event to our cities and how we can all improve our cities and make them stronger communities for music while also of course, informing everyone about the Academy.

I have to say. I have been involved with the Red Bull Music Academy for 7 years now and each and every year it gets me so excited to be a part of it. I love the concept of it all, I love the guest speakers that we meet and have the opportunity to hear their experiences. Their stories of what inspires them, what makes them do what they do. It makes me a better artist and inspires me, and it also makes me a better person.

So today's very special guest speaker was Dennis Coffey. YES, THE DENNIS COFFEY! Funk Brothers! Motown Records! One of my favorite quotes he mentioned this evening that I will always remember is when the music business changed from the years he had known with living solely off of gigs and studio sessions and had to return back to the Detroit car industry in order to support his family. He said "Sometimes you have to be ready to bend to support your family" and "don't ever give up the music".

I look forward to the next two days and also look forward to returning back home to my family. More updates coming soon!

Monism Music: Jesse Brooks "ISTF" *Zodiac Cartel Remix"! Prepares for release!

This year Monism Music, that MO7S and myself have been running will take the next step in the direction of becoming a stateside Tech-Funk label. One of very few might I add. This week, our next release Monism 006 done by West Coasts, Jesse Brooks, had a spotlight done over on the TECH-FUNK MANIFESTO, owned and operated by Mr. Elite Force. You can check out what people have said already and hear a sample of the upcoming Zodiac Cartel remix scheduled for release right in time for the Winter Music Conference.

In other news, prepare for the following release Monism 007 to have remixes of LA's Brian Thomas' "The Drop" done by Lot49's, Kid Blue and one from yours personally. All will be dropping for WMC. So much in the works, don't sleep now!

FTW @ The Goodlife for a good cause!

This Friday will be a benefit party for Lil' Melissa and Jess who recently had a house fire this past November and were left with nothing. Thankfully, they were both fine. So to assist them in getting back on their feet, we are bringing everyone together this Friday. We hope you can make it out. In addition, we will be celebrating my Birthday as well. I won't mention how old I am now but I will answer if you ask me in person. LOL.....
